All swimmers at whatever level of ability are welcome. Special attention is given to swimmers with little or no experience of being in openwater. Advice can be given concerning purchase of clothing and equipment. Wetsuits are recommended.
Tow-floats are obligatory: they make you visible to boat craft, store your valuables like car-keys and mobile phones, and give you a float to rest on if you suddenly get a cramp and need to work on your leg muscles.
We swim in a variety of locations but ideally somewhere near a good cafe for a post-swim coffee and croissant. For example, Loughrigg Tarn (Chesters cafe); Fell Foot (Yew Tree Barn cafe, Low Newton); or the Bowness Jetty steamboat museum (Jetty cafe).
Please note that, as with other u3a pursuits, you take part at your own risk.
Contact Nigel Rider for more details.

Members meet occasionally, whenever they wish to swim together.
